1. “California Dreamin’” by the Mamas and the Papas
Although this classic song takes place on a winter’s day, the opening lyrics “All the leaves are brown/and the sky is gray,” epitomizes fall weather as leaves begin to change colors and the weather begins to cool. The songs spectacular harmonies aren’t bad either.
2. “Any Colour You Like” by Pink Floyd
From their iconic 1973 Dark Side of the Moon album, Pink Floyd’s “Any Colour You Like” is an instrumental piece consisting of a synthesized tune leading into a trippy and warped guitar solo. The tune in the beginning of the song is reminiscent to leaves falling from trees as they land gracefully onto the ground.
3. “Autumn Leaves” by Ed Sheeran
A bonus track from British songwriter Ed Sheeran’s debut album, +, “Autumn Leaves” is a melancholic track about missing someone. “Float down” and give this comforting track a listen.
4. “Lodi” by Creedence Clearwater Revival
“Lodi” is the perfect tune to blast with the car windows rolled down as you drive around campus and admire the fall foliage.
5. “Rhiannon” By Fleetwood Mac
Fleetwood Mac’s 1975 album Fleetwood Mac, features this spellbinding track with Stevie Nicks taking the reins for vocals. Both lyrically and instrumentally mystical, “Rhiannon” fits well with the change of seasons.
6. “Sweater Weather” by The Neighbourhood
Self-explanatory.
7. “Harvest Moon” by Neil Young
As the harvest moon – a full moon that falls closest to the autumnal equinox – marks the beginning of fall in the Northern Hemisphere, Neil Young sings, “I want to see you dance again/Because I’m still in love with you/On this harvest moon,” in this soft and melodic love song.
8. “Undone (The Sweater Song)” by Weezer
Ah, Fall…the perfect sweater weather. Straight off of Weezer’s debut album, “Undone (The Sweater Song)” is all about sweaters. This catchy song is perfect for October, and not to mention fun to belt out loud with friends.
9. “Young Pilgrims” by The Shins
“Young Pilgrims” takes place on a cold November day. The only instruments heard are the mellow acoustic guitars and singer James Mercer as he serenades listeners with a lofty tale of the sea.
10. “Ragged Wood” by Fleet Foxes
Mountain ranges, hillocks, forests and lakes flood the imagination when listening to this song by Fleet Foxes. Front man Robin Pecknold sings, “The world is alive now,” so go outside and appreciate that fall weather.
11. “For Emma” by Bon Iver
The soft acoustics and harmonies in this track are soothing, just like that pumpkin spice latte you’re probably sipping down.
12. “Modern Man” by Arcade Fire
Straight from Arcade Fire’s GRAMMY winning album The Suburbs, “Modern Man” is one of those tracks that can be listened to while walking around campus, tuning the world out and putting the headphones in. It’s pleasing to the ears and singer Win Butler’s vocals are to a tee. The light drumming and simple guitars make this a perfect fall jam.
