10 shows to binge watch during winter break

Rather than scrolling through hundreds of shows on Netflix, why not start here?

With winter break upon us, it’s a good time to start planning out which shows to add to your binge-watching list. Rather than scrolling through hundreds of shows on Netflix and seeing lots of different choices, why not start here? These 10 shows might not be as popular as “Game of Thrones” or “Stranger Things,” but they’re definitely worth checking out.

 

“How to Get Away with Murder”

Number of episodes per season: 15

Genre: Crime, drama, mystery, thriller

Plot: If you like murder mysteries, you’ll like this show. Five law students are all excited to be picked by professor and lawyer Annalise Keating to work with her on cases, but once they become involved in a murder, they regret ever being selected.

 

“Lucifer”

Number of episodes per season: Varies

Genre: Crime, drama, fantasy, mystery

Plot: The devil, Lucifer Morningstar, got tired of his life in hell with his father controlling him, so naturally, he moves to Los Angeles. On Earth, he is a rich man who runs a nightclub and can get people to tell him their deepest desires. He also works as police consulate who starts falling for a human.

 

“Arrow”

Genre: Superhero fiction, action, drama

Plot: When Oliver Queen gets stranded on an island for five years, he has to figure out how he can make the best out of a horrible situation. When he returns to Starling City, he is a changed man and is determined to take down criminals.

 

“The Flash”

Genre: Superhero fiction, action, drama

Plot: If you like “Arrow,” then you’ll like this show as well. After Barry Allen is struck by lightning, he discovers that he has obtained the power of super speed. He decides to use his newfound abilities as a superhero to fight others who use their powers for evil.

 

“Riverdale”

Genre: Teen drama, mystery

Plot: As you watch this show, you might be thinking that you recognize these characters from somewhere, and that’s because the show is based on Archie Comics. The residents of the small town of Riverdale have secrets which unravel after the death of a local teen. As they try to find out who killed him, Archie and his friends become entangled in a dark mystery.

 

“Suits”

Genre: Legal drama

Plot: A corporate lawyer at a big firm takes a chance and hires a college dropout as his associate without telling anyone that he didn’t actually go to law school. Every time they go to court, they make enemies and their secret gets harder to hide.

 

“The 100”

Number of episodes per season: Varies from 13-16

Genre: Science fiction, drama, dystopian, action

Plot: This show is unlike any other. It is a post-apocalyptic science-fiction drama about people living in 12 different space stations because they think that Earth is no longer a safe place. As years go by and people start having more kids than recommended, they think of a plan to test out if Earth is habitable by sending 100 kids to see if they can survive.

 

“Insecure”

Genre: Comedy, drama

Plot: You might remember seeing Issa Rae on YouTube, but now she has her own HBO show. The plot follows Issa, who works at a non-profit, and her college best friend Molly, an attorney, and the everyday social and racial issues that black women encounter.

 

“Brooklyn Nine-Nine”

Genre: Comedy, crime

Plot: A detective who likes to joke around at work and do pretty much whatever he wants is taken aback by the new commanding officer who has a more serious approach to law enforcement.

 

“Mr. Robot”

Genre: Drama, thriller

Plot: A computer programmer who suffers from social anxiety and depression gets excited when he is recruited from a group of people to take down the world’s biggest corporation.
