In photos: XTCA Art Parade brings life to streets of Amherst

AMHERST — Performers and marchers in the first-ever Cross Town Contemporary Art Parade brought the arts to life as they cheered and danced down North Pleasant Street on Sept. 22.
The parade began at the University of Massachusetts Fine Art Center and followed the XTCA: Cross Town Contemporary Art exhibition — a public art exhibit that includes 12 outside art installations — to Kendrick Park. A celebration at the park included a dance circle, games of bocce and live performances.
The event was organized by TheatreTruck Co-Artistic Director Elizabeth Pangburn. TheatreTruck, a performance art group, collaborated with the University Museum of Contemporary Art and Double Edge Theatre to plan and execute the parade.
The mission was to spread art and bring the UMass and Amherst community together, according to the event’s Facebook page. The XTCA exhibit was installed July 1.
