Yes, they did it again.
February 5, 2019
After a long and uneventful Super Bowl on Sunday night saw the hometown New England Patriots grind out a 13-3 win, students and fans of both teams gathered in the Southwest residential are. At 10:10 p.m., a crowd of almost 3,000 students gathered in the courtyard outside of the Berkshire Dining Commons, according to a University of Massachusetts Amherst press release.
State troopers and local police in riot gear were there on standby to disperse the crowd and ensure the celebrations did not get out of hand.
Though the temperature was just above freezing it did nothing to slow down students or their celebrations. No arrests were made but one student who had climbed a tree was escorted away. One head injury and two hand injuries were reported.
Student celebrations continued until 10:40 p.m., when the police started to disperse the crowd. Students left peacefully and continued their celebrations across campus as students returned to their dorms.
