NORTHAMPTON — Drive through the Smith College campus too fast on a cold winter day and you might miss it; the Botanic Garden of Smith College is a warm escape from the harsh winter of the Pioneer Valley.

Free and open to the public, anyone can walk from greenhouse to greenhouse and explore the exotic rainforests, crisp tulip gardens and rows of precious succulents.

Separated by the ideal climates of each kind of plant, the gardens have everything from banana and cacao (chocolate) trees to carnivorous plants to fragrant lavender and citrus plants.

On a cold Saturday morning, the annual Spring Bulb Show had the gardens of tulips, lilies and mums buzzing with people, some armed with cameras and others just taking it all in.

The Bulb Show will end March 25, and the flowers from the show will go on sale that weekend. Find more information here.
