Baroque pop queen Lana Del Rey released two singles this month, pleasantly surprising fans as her most recent album “Lust for Life” came out in July 2017.

Del Ray released “Mariners Apartment Complex” Sept. 7. It’s a little spin on her usual sound, incorporating more uplifting themes, while still holding true to her hippie, vintage vibe. It’s easy listening — ultimately, it’s a song about her love life with a touch of feminism, in that she identifies herself as the leader and the guide in the relationship. She manages to convey a variety of emotions with frequently changing tempos as the intensity of the classical instruments fluctuates throughout, so the track shifts from calming to exciting, supported by a constant positive feel.

Her most recent Sept. 18 release “Venice B****” is an almost 10-minute track reminiscing on summer, love and youth. She even quotes “nothing gold can stay,” so the subject is pretty much a given. This track is special because it begins with a bittersweet mood through soft acoustic guitar and sentimental lyrics sang on alluring high notes. It slowly transitions into a more desperate feel as the rhythm speeds up, leading up to a dreamy combination of electric rock and techno in the background of her unmistakable mindless humming at the song’s end.

Del Rey’s next album is expected to be released in 2019, titled “Norman F****** Rockwell.”
