Thrift Books: more reading for a lot less money
The term thrifting takes a whole new spin with “Thrift Books,” an online book thrift store
If you’re like me, online shopping is just about the only thing getting you through this pandemic. However, the cost of clothes can really add up. With Covid, there’s not many events to wear my new clothes to, and I’ve found myself wearing leggings and sweatpants way more often than any of the clothes I buy online. So, with the interest of saving some space in my closet, I decided to switch up my online shopping habits.
One day as I was scrolling through Tiktok, I saw a video of a girl talking about a website that sells cheap used books. The website that she was talking about was called “Thrift Books”. This almost sounded too good to be true, so I decided to check it out myself.
When I first opened the website I was immediately struck by how organized and easy to use it is. There are labeled categories for any genre of book you could imagine, ranging from classics to mystery. That’s not all though. Their name might be “Thrift Books,” but they have so much beyond books, such as movies, TV shows, music, and video games.
As for prices, they were even better than I thought they would be. I personally ended up buying eight books, and the total was $50. Whereas if I bought it in a bookstore, the total would have been closer to $130. Most of the books that I bought cost about $3.99 which is a great price considering the near-perfect condition they came in.
One drawback to the website is when you click on a book genre, not all options are shown. It is much easier to search for an author or a book title and then look through your options that way. I actually found this method to be helpful because I was looking for a specific book I knew I liked. When I searched up the author I was able to find the book, and look at everything else she had written too.
Something to keep in mind when using the site is that the books are used. Because of this, the older the book is, the smaller the price will be. Most of their inventory comes from places like Goodwill or Amazon returns, therefore the older a book is, the more options there will be and the less it will cost.
In addition to having great prices “Thrift Books” offers free shipping for orders over $10. This is one of the lowest free shipping amounts I have ever seen online shopping. On top of free shipping, the shipping is also fast. I placed my order on a Friday and I already had them by the next Wednesday.
All in all, “Thrift Books” has good products at good prices with a great selection. I would recommend this website to anyone looking to find some new reads, but who doesn’t want to hurt their wallet.
