Tips and tricks for your iOS 7 update

So you’ve updated to iOS 7… and good, bad, or indifferent, it’s probably not what you were expecting. Now that you’ve had some time to adjust to all of the changes that came with your software update, here are five tips and tricks that will make iOS 7 work better for you.
1) You can still close your apps, its just a little different
Many users have been confused after their iPhones did not give them the options of closing an app after double clicking the Home button. This can be frustrating, but the new way is just as simple. To quit apps you are no longer using, simply double click the Home button (as always) and check out the icons and screenshots of all of the programs your phone is running. To close any of them, simply swipe the screenshot up and your iPhone will do the rest. You can even close three apps at the same time this way, so the slight change might be worth the initial frustration.
2) There is a way to make your battery last longer
One of the chief complaints with the iOS 7 update has been a decrease in battery life. This can be a huge inconvenience if you are away from your charger all day, but there is one trick for getting a little more out of each charge. To try it, head to Settings, then General, and finally to Background App Refresh. There, you’ll be able to see all of the apps operating (and updating) in the background and be able to toggle off the ones you don’t need. Gizmodo offers a bunch of other tricks to make your battery life last longer, too.
3) Your iPhone acts even more like a camera than before
The Volume Up button does so much more after the update to iOS 7, you just have to know how to use it. Try it out next time you want to take a shot, or even hold it down to take multiple shots in a row. Next time you’re going through your pictures, check out the new way photos are organized together by time and place.
4) You can finally (and easily) figure out what time you sent a text
Simply slide one of your text messages to the left and watch as time stamps appear for every part of the conversation.
5) The new Notification Center is a helpful way to prepare for your day
Swipe down from the top of your screen, and the Notification Center will break down the day ahead, the things you’ve missed, or all of the above The Today section of this feature is particularly useful when getting ready in the morning, showing the date, weather, events on your calendar, reminders, and what is ahead for tomorrow.
While it might be hard to get used to at first, it’s important to note that iOS 7 does have some redeeming qualities. Hopefully, these five make coping with your update just a little bit easier.
