Love Poem #45956524
Who wants to read another poem about love?
Something sappy and passionate and fond and remembering?
In early February, when cartoon hearts replace paper snowflakes,
And couple call the Cheesecake Factory for last-minute reservations,
Who wants to read another poem about love?
Who wants to read what I have to say?
About how she crept in through the tight-knit netting I had wrapped around myself,
Moving slowly, inserting her hand through the cracks between my ribs,
Puncturing a hole in my heart for her to stay,
As it filled with something indecipherable before fizzling out and leaving me empty again.
Who wants to read another poem about love?
About how I remember us laying together in the grass,
Watching a snake make its way through the forest floor,
His hand lying next to mine, so close, but not touching, never touching,
Indulging in our shared delusion of sanity,
Until seconds and minutes and hours and miles shredded our red string.
Who wants to read another poem about love?
About how they used to call me the Bubblegum to their Marceline,
About how he insisted on walking me home every night,
About how she told me I had a great voice before she kissed me,
About how we haven’t spoken in years,
About how their name still scalds my tongue and throat,
About how I am now different because of them.
Who wants to read another poem about love?
……
you?
