Top five late-night snacks near UMass

Up late studying or having a night out with friends? Here are the best places for late dining off-campus

It’s Saturday night, you just got back from going out and now, you and your friends are starving. Every place you know is closed and after searching for nearby spots to eat, you’re stumped. Don’t worry! There are still some local spots for late-night snacking.

Insomnia Cookies

Are you looking for a warm, sweet late-night snack? If so, Insomnia Cookies is a bakery open until 3 a.m. The menu includes fresh, warm cookies, brownies and ice cream. If you’re not in the mood to make the trip, or are unable to drive, they deliver! My favorite cookies include Classic with M&M’s and Double Chocolate Chunk. Vegan or Gluten-Free? Try Vegan Birthday Cake or the Gluten-Free Chocolate Chip cookie.

Insomnia Cookies, 30 Main St, Amherst, MA 01002. Open until 3 a.m, delivery ends at 2:30 a.m. Prices range from $2.50-$22. (413) 887-3352.

Antonio’s Pizza

In the downtown area and craving pizza? Antonio’s Pizza serves traditional, thin-crust pizza, and my personal favorite, Sicilian-style pizza. With a variety of toppings, this is the best place to stop with friends when you need food, but want to keep the excitement of the night going. You can sit outside, eat and have a perfect recap of the night. The location is within walking distance from bars, lots of on and off-campus housing, and many fraternities. Antonio’s is open until 10 p.m. on weekdays but open until 2 a.m. Thursday-Saturday.

Antonio’s Pizza, 31 N Pleasant St, Amherst, MA 01002. Sunday-Wednesday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m., Thursday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-2 a.m. Prices range from $2.75-$21. (413) 253-0808.

Sunset Grill & Pizza

Another option for pizza in the Amherst area is Sunset Grill & Pizza. Open until midnight Thursday-Saturday and 11:45 p.m. on Sunday and Monday, it’s another great option for a late-night snack. Head to Sunset Pizza if you’re craving Philly cheesesteaks, calzones, grinders, burgers, or pizza rings.

Sunset Grill & Pizza, 150 Fearing St, Amherst, MA 01002. Monday 6 p.m.-11:45 p.m., Tuesday-Wednesday Closed, Thursday-Friday 6 p.m.-12 a.m., Saturday 2 p.m.-12 a.m. Prices range from $5-$38. (413) 835-0568.

Cumberland Farms

Although Cumberland Farms is a convenience store, the two Amherst locations are open 24/7 and filled with snacks. From candy to slushies and chips to pizzas, there are unlimited options. While you can’t sit inside, you and your friends can pick out multiple snacks to enjoy back in the dorms.

Cumberland Farms at 35 Belchertown Rd, Amherst, MA 01002, open 24 hours. (413) 256-8332.

Cumberland Farms at 19 Montague Rd, Amherst, MA 01002, open 24 hours. (413) 549-1501.

Fast Food (Wendy’s and McDonald’s)

In the mood for chicken nuggets or salty fries? There is a Wendy’s and McDonald’s in Hadley, both within a five-minute drive from campus and with Drive Thru hours closing at either 1 or 2 a.m. My meal at Wendy’s includes the $5 Biggie Bag. This includes a fountain soda, four chicken nuggets, french fries and a crispy chicken sandwich. This is definitely a good choice for cheap junk food at 1 a.m.

Wendy’s 376 Russell St, Hadley, MA 01035, Restaurant hours Sunday-Saturday 9 a.m.- 10 p.m., Drive Thru hours Sunday-Saturday 6:30 a.m.-1 a.m. (413) 517-3968.

McDonald’s 374 Russell St, Hadley, MA 01035, Restaurant hours Sunday-Saturday 6 a.m.-11 p.m., Drive Thru hours Sunday-Thursday 6 a.m.-2 a.m., Friday-Saturday 6 a.m.-3 a.m. (413) 582-0176.
