Entertainment winners, losers of the week
This is the eleventh installment of “Entertainment winners and losers of the week,” covering Oct. 22-28.
With so much happening on social media, it’s hard to keep up. Here are the highs and lows of the week, selected by the Amherst Wire Entertainment staff.
Jonathan Kermah
Winner: Kodak Black

Kodak Black’s newest single “ZEZE” featuring Travis Scott and Offset currently sits at No. 2 on the Billboard hot 100 and No. 1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop charts. This is the highest single debut for Kodak since “Tunnel Vision.” Since being released from prison in August, Kodak has been on fire, providing hot singles and hilarious memes. We’ll see if this success can transfer into a successful album.
Loser: XXXTENTACION
Pitchfork has obtained a secretly recorded tape from 2016 of XXXTentacion confessing to multiple violent crimes https://t.co/wIzhPhYXBK
— Pitchfork (@pitchfork) October 23, 2018
Last week, Pitchfork released an audio clip where deceased rapper XXXTENTACION allegedly admitted to abusing his ex-girlfriend Geneva Ayala, as well as stabbing multiple people. To many, this isn’t a surprise, but for the supporters of the late rapper, this may come as a shock.
It was also announced by producer Mally Mall that XXXTENTACION’s collaborations with Rihanna and The Weeknd will be released soon. As of right now, the recording of XXXTENTACION confessing hasn’t seemed to put a halt in the artist selling music posthumously, and plenty of fans are arguing that Pitchfork manipulated the audio to fit their agenda.

Hayley Solomon
Winner: “Mrs.Doubtfire” cast
The reunion that we did not expect but did not realize we needed happened this week, when Pierce Brosnan and the child actors, now all grown up, of “Mrs. Doubtfire” reunited this week celebrating 25 years since the release of the film. While it was an exciting reunion, there were some faces missing, such as Sally Field , and of course, the late star of the film, Robin Williams — may he rest in peace. As a huge “Mrs. Doubtfire” fan, it was exciting to see some of the cast reunite all grown up after so much time has passed.

Loser: 6ix9ine
The widely popular rapper, known for his hit song “FEFE” (Feat. Nicki Minaj & Murda Beatz) was sentenced this week in New York City up to 4 years on probation. 6ix9ine was sentenced after being arrested in 2015 for the use of a child in a sexual performance. He also pled guilty back in October 2015 when videos went viral of him sexually engaging with a young girl. The rapper was ordered in court to complete 1,000 hours of community service for violating his plea agreement back in 2015.

Winner: Timothee Chalamet
Timothee Chalamet has recently been spreading awareness about the realities of addiction due to this issue being tackled in his new upcoming movie, “Beautiful Boy.” Chalamet and his co-star Steve Carell show how a father-son relationship can deal with the pain of addiction. In the “Beautiful Boy” featurette, Chalamet says, “Addiction knows no class, no race, no boundaries and it’s a modern day crisis.”

Loser: Vogue and Kendall Jenner
In the past, Kendall Jenner has had multiple controversies and now has plagued Vogue with her controversy curse. Vogue has recently faced some criticism after styling Kendall Jenner’s hair into what some people might see as an afro. The magazine quickly addressed the issue by stating that the hairstyle was inspired by the romantic Edwardian or Gibson Girl look.
Media: black people are angry at Kendall Jenner's hair!!!! Cultural appropriationonin!!!!!

Winner: Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra
Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra are both incredibly good-looking, talented, and seem like genuinely good people. The two are newly engaged and the internet can’t get enough of them. Chopra posted a picture on Instagram Tuesday and Jonas commented “REEEDDDD DRESSSS” making a reference to The Jonas Brothers’ song “Burnin up.” My 13-year-old inner fangirl came alive.

Loser: Ronnie Ortiz-Magro’s relationships
“Jersey Shore” star Ronnie Ortiz-Magro can’t seem to escape relationship drama. We all watched the constant fighting between him and his ex-girlfriend Sam at the shore house, but in the most recent season of “Jersey Shore: Family Vacation,” we started to see more serious relationship drama unfold between him and his current girlfriend, Jen Harley. The two are on-again, off-again but it appears to be a very unhealthy relationship. They have a young daughter together, but they just can’t seem to work things out.
Ronnie posted a photo on his Instagram story Wednesday evening, in which it appears he has a black eye. He captioned it, “Sorry for lying to my friends and family, sometimes u love people so much your willing to lie and the hurt the people that love you the most to protect.” He also tagged Jen in the post, suggesting that she may have done it, but hours later he deleted the post. Apparently, this isn’t the first time things have gotten violent. We all make jokes about “Jersey Shore,” but domestic violence isn’t a laughing matter. Here’s to hoping Ronnie and Jen figure things out, for themselves and their adorable daughter.

Winner: Demi Lovato
Demi Lovato is 90 days sober, her mother reveals: 'I couldn’t be more thankful' https://t.co/FsE9Y3ydqk pic.twitter.com/euJnBkqPb9
— WFAA (@wfaa) October 28, 2018
After her apparent drug overdose back on July 24, the pop-star’s future is looking brighter as Lovato’s mother celebrated Demi’s 90 days of sobriety. Fans may remember that Lovato broke her silence on sobriety just before the overdose, releasing a song in which she declared that she had a relapse. Her recent sobriety, however, is excellent news. Lately it seems our favorite artists are battling with addiction now more than ever, and it is important to celebrate sobriety wherever it comes about. I, for one, am relieved that Demi has found stable ground, and I wish her all the best in her road to recovery with a terrible disease.
Loser: Ice-T
Hip-hop vet Ice-T was arrested last Wednesday for blowing through a toll booth in NYC. Ice claims that his E-ZPass scanner didn’t work, and that’s what triggered the cop chase leading to his arrest. Not realizing the mistake, Ice continued on down the road. However, Ice was released almost as quickly as he was arrested and continued onto the set of “Law & Order: SVU.” I will say the one positive in all of this is that Ice-T has a SWEET ride. I mean, it’s a McLaren and its brand new. I would have let him go based on the car alone. What a flex.
