This is the thirteenth installment of “Entertainment winners and losers of the week,” covering Nov. 26-Dec. 3.

With so much happening on social media, it’s hard to keep up. Here are the highs and lows of the week, selected by the Amherst Wire Entertainment staff.

Jonathan Kermah

Winner: J.I.D

Is this a homer pick? Sort of.

Atlanta rapper J.I.D released his sophomore album “DiCaprio 2” and made his television debut on “The Tonight Show” this week. J.I.D has been one of my favorite artists for a while now, so it feels great to see him getting some recognition. On “The Tonight Show,” he performed “Skrawberries,” an ode to women over an instrumental produced by Mac Miller. This seems like the first of many television performances for the Dreamville artist.

Loser: Eminem

“Father Time is undefeated” is a  phrase commonly used in the professional sports world to describe an athlete’s decline due to age. This is used less frequently in the music world, but here it rings true.

Hip-hop legend Eminem released an 11-minute freestyle video to the world Friday via Twitter, much to the chagrin of hip-hop fans under the age of 30. The freestyle was loaded with some of Shady’s corniest dad joke bars to date, like “B**** watch who you’re talking to, like Apple wristwear,” for example. To make things worse, he elected to rap without a beat and delivered some nearly unlistenable flows.

Unlike a Jay-Z or Andre 3000, 46-year-old Eminem has completely fallen from grace. Let’s make this stop before a legend’s legacy is ruined.

I take that back, we’re too late to save his legacy.

Hayley Solomon

Winner: Ariana Grande

This Friday, Ariana Grande released the music video to her number one single “thank u, next,” and it was everything anyone could have ever asked for. The video includes remade clips from movies like “Mean Girls,” “Legally Blonde,” “13 Going on 30” and “Bring it On.” Many stars from the original films, like Lindsay Lohan, Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo, praised Grande for the movie references.

The video also featured some star appearances, including Kris Jenner, Jonathan Bennett (the original Aaron Samuels), Jennifer Coolidge, Colleen Ballinger and some of the “Victorious” cast, minus Victoria Justice. Basically, this video was epic all around.

The video also broke the record for Most Views on YouTube in 24 hours with about 41 million views. The music video is a masterpiece. We’re all waiting to see what Grande will do next.

Loser: Marvel television shows

After three seasons, Netflix decided to cancel its original series, “Daredevil”, shocking fans and the cast. The producers of the show had already laid out the fourth season before the cancellation, saying they were unaware of what was to come.

Fans and critics of the show were just as shocked. “Iron Fist” and “Luke Cage” were also canceled this year. Whether fans will ever see the Man Without Fear on Netflix again is uncertain.

Trevor Wilson

Winner: Hip-hop fans

If you’re like me, or any other hip-hop fan, you’re probably still in a daze from all the new music that was released this weekend. A whopping nine albums dropped, the most noteworthy being Meek Mill’s “Championships,” Earl Sweatshirt’s “Some Rap Songs,” Ski Mask’s “Stokeley” and Lil Baby’s “Street Gossip.” Whew, that’s exhausting. My head was spinning trying to figure out which album to listen to first. But any hip-hop fan is sure to find something they like.

On top of all the great albums, fans got some new singles this weekend as well. Chicago star Chance The Rapper made a return with his two singles, “My Own Thing” and “The Man Who Has Everything.” On top of that, Big K.R.I.T released the “Double Down” EP with two new tracks titled “Learned From Texas” and “Pick Yourself Up.” Other artists like Saba, Gucci Mane and Kodak Black dropped new singles, too.

Loser: My childhood

Boy, this past week has been a doozy. Like millions of others, I was deeply saddened to learn of the death of “Spongebob Squarepants” creator Stephen Hillenburg. On Nov. 26, Hillenburg tragically passed away due to ALS. He announced his diagnosis in March 2017. The world, on nearly every social media platform, swarmed on the topic, posting their favorite clips, moments and more from the beloved childhood show.

First Stan Lee, now Hillenburg? The two icons leave legacies that will last an eternity. Hillenburg’s cartoon touched the lives of millions with comic relief for all ages. Now, fans want to celebrate his legacy by playing the iconic “Sweet Victory” song at the Super Bowl halftime.

Just yesterday, Nickelodeon shared their touching tribute to Hillenburg. R.I.P. Mr. Hillenburg, thanks for the amazing memories.

Barbara Talagan

Winner: Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas

Actress Priyanka Chopra and singer Nick Jonas recently married after being engaged for only a few months. The couple beautifully fused both traditional Hindu and Christian ceremonies for the wedding. The couple exchanged vows in Christian tradition followed by a Mehendi ceremony the next day. Ralph Lauren designed the dress.

Loser: Halsey

On Saturday, pop singer Halsey moshed a little too hard at rock band The Story So Far’s Hollywood Palladium concert. Halsey live-tweeted her experience during the event. In one update, the star said she lost both hoop earrings while jamming to the band’s song, “Roam.”  She later tweeted pleading for people not to sell them on eBay.

Katherine Kelley

Winner: Amanda Bynes

Remember when Amanda Bynes went rogue on Twitter? Well, she seems to be doing much better, and was spotted in public. She was recently featured in Paper Magazine and said, “I have no fear of the future. I’ve been through the worst and came out the other end and survived it so I just feel like it’s only up from here.”

She’s been sober for a while now, and is excited about moving on and trying new things. We love a good comeback.

Loser: Conor McGregor

Irish boxer and mixed martial artist was fined and lost his license for six months in Ireland due to speeding. While that means he can’t operate his impressive collection of expensive cars for a while, he seems to be making light of the whole situation. He posted a video to Instagram of his son driving around a toy Mercedes-Benz ,captioned “I’ve found my new driver.” Good thing he has enough money to hire a real driver…
