“Trust Nobody” – King Princess
King Princess just released her debut album, “Cheap Queen.” She already built quite a name for herself prior to this release, with various EPs and singles but is solidifying who she is as an artist with this project. We see even more into her personal life and how she is living with her rising fame.“Trust Nobody” is a reflection of the rest of the material on the album. She is still edgy and has a confidence about her but is singing about being a fool for love.
“Well, I don’t ever trust nobody/And they think I’m cute and kinda funny/Oh, I guess that’s fair/And I get dumb when you start talking/And one more night and I might fall for you/Oh, I’m there,” she sings in verse two. In this song her guard is down, she has fallen for someone and is now giving them all her attention.

“Look At Her Now” – Selena Gomez
Selena Gomez returns from hiatus releasing two singles for a new era of Gomez. “Look At Her Now” is a fun dance song that speaks to growth after losing a lover. “Of course she was sad / But now she’s glad she dodged a bullet / Took a few years to soak up the tears / But look at her now, watch her go,” she sings during the pre-chorus. Gomez proves it’s okay to take time to get over someone you loved and just grow from it. Sonically this is a new sound for Gomez, as co-writer Julia Michaels lets her own unique sound bleed through. There’s just something about this song that makes you feel confident and want to dance.

“Start Wit Me” – Roddy Rich (feat. Gunna)
Compton meets College Park as Roddy Rich and Gunna link for “Start with me,” produced by JetsonMade. This marks Roddy’s second single dropped in October, as he builds hype for his follow up album to the fan acclaimed “Feed tha streets II.” This track features Roddy and Gunna trading verses over a melodic combination of flutes and 808s while warning their opponents of the ramifications to be experienced if planning to start issues with either of the two.
Quotable lyrics include “Made a lot of plays, hood got J’s/ I kept me a bag, it was a heart in it (Heart in it)/Rappin’, made a name, now I get paid for a stage/ I keep a guitar with me (‘Tar with me)/ Executive pay, black President/ Escalade with the proof with the bar in it (Bar in it),” and “I’ma pull up with the strap, we gon’ get him on sight/ We gon’ make a thriller like Mike/ Car tainted, painted Mike and Ike/ And my diamonds lookin’ like a light/ I’ma fly a private like a kite/ Got a Bentley coupe turnin’ right.”

“God’s Gonna Cut You Down” – Marilyn Manson
Borrowing from the history of chameleon provocateurs like David Bowie, Marilyn Manson has gone through numerous changes in both sound and style. From the “God of F**k” to the “Heaven Upside Down,” he’s explored industrial-tinged glam rock, alternative metal, to vaudeville and the burlesque, and with his newest single, “God’s Gonna Cut You Down,” the dark, gritty southern-gothic charm of the Pale Emperor returns.
The most popular version of the traditional folk gospel song was recorded by Johnny Cash on his “American V” album, and Manson borrows heavily from it. The cover brings nothing wholly unheard to the musical landscape, yet Manson’s rasps and road-weary screams fit in seamlessly to the sparse, apocalyptic sound. The echoes of “Sons of Anarchy,” Johnny Cash, and a long hard road come together to make one hell of a return to form. The Pale Emperor is back.

“Frail State of Mind”- The 1975
Coming off of their last album “A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships,” The 1975 is one of the most exciting bands out there. The British pop rock band filled their last album to the brim with political and social messages, straying from more personal and emotional accounts in their music. This past week they have seemed to have returned to form with the release of a new song called “Frail State of Mind.”
While fairly personal, this new track is quite relatable as well. The song details what it is like having anxiety and how suffering from it not only affects you, but the people around you as well. The song begins with wind chime-like sounds that are interrupted by a bass-heavy beat that loops throughout the rest of the song. Vocalist Matty Healy accompanies these instrumentals with soft vocals. This track sounds similar to The 1975’s previously released song “TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME.” The 1975 seems to never disappoint and this song is no different. It surely excites me for what’s to come with their upcoming album.

La Doña – “Le Lo Lai”
La Doña’s fourth single “Le Lo Lai,” is one powerful Spanglish hit. The Xicana singer creates an authentic musical experience by combining mellow Latin beats with playful lyrics like, “I got a weekend off and flew to L.A. / Met up a dude who was really hella great / Nice and brown and tall like me.” Throughout the song La Doña — whose real name is Cecilia Peña-Govea — incorporates pieces of both her personality and her wide range of musical abilities. Filled with angelic vocals and bits of humor, “Le Lo Lai” is the perfect song for any modern chingona.
