Introspective Ramblings: “Destine”
Editor’s Note: Introspective Ramblings is Amherst Wire’s poetry column, dedicated to showcasing student’s creative work through a mixture of audio and visual components.
Destine
It was the space between us as it dissolved.
It was the ecosystems we carry in us
And it was how they rushed from one life to another, singing
Across my hand to the side of your face
How we were seamless.
It was the eyes-closed sway of every musician
When their song lays bare their heart
Timed with every chest-opening whirl of every drunken dancer, laughing
Because it was timed with every wave crashing into the stage and crumbling facade
It was how we let the hourglass we carried between us fall, so we could hold each other better.
And it was how when it shattered, roses grew from the sand
Weaving a foundation,
And how every note passed between us grew into walls
And it was everything in an instant.
It lives in the lines of my palms
the space under my rings
the corner of your eyes when you smile
the curve of your shoulders
and the space where I fit under your chin.
We’ll be home in a moment.
