Introspective Ramblings: “the day the world stopped turning”

Editor’s Note: Introspective Ramblings is Amherst Wire’s poetry column, dedicated to showcasing student’s creative work through a mixture of audio and visual components.

the day the world stopped turning

on this day the sky was grey
the sun went into hiding
because even the sun didn’t want to be outside
the weather depicting how we all felt
and unfortunately still feel
and unfortunately how we’re going to continue to feel
for days, weeks, months to come

careers ruined
lives lost
hearts shattered
smiles missing

the world is your oyster they said
but on this day the ocean dried up
everyone’s oyster was no more

on the day the world stopped turning
it felt that the anything positive was nonexistent
life as we knew it was over

in reality, however
it seems to me that for the first time
in maybe the history of humanity
it was not my world vs your world vs their world
it was our world
and together we can make it start turning again
day by day, week by week, month by month.
